Dong A Chemical Joint Stock Company Builds Vietnam’s First Large-Scale Chlorine Plant

With the goal of supplying customers with a full range of chlor-alkali chemicals, including Chlorine, Dong A Chemical Joint Stock Company has invested in building the first modern, large-scale Chlorine production plant in Vietnam.

Strategic Development Orientation

In line with Vietnam’s industrialization and modernization, Dong A Chemical has made significant progress in recent years. The company has continuously diversified its product portfolio, meeting domestic demand across various sectors while supplying essential chemical inputs for multiple industries.

As part of its development strategy, Dong A has implemented a Phase 3 expansion project to upgrade its plant capacity to 40,000 tons of caustic soda (NaOH 100%) per year. This project aligns with Vietnam’s national plan for basic chemical production development.

By 2025, the company aims to fully meet domestic demand for key chemicals such as caustic soda (NaOH), hydrochloric acid (HCl), PAC, liquid chlorine, sodium hypochlorite (Javen), and Chlorine—gradually replacing imports. The project applies the most advanced chlor-alkali technologies, ensuring both economic efficiency and compliance with strict environmental regulations.

Building Vietnam’s First Chlorine Manufacturing Plant

Vietnam is currently facing increasing water pollution due to rapid industrialization, urbanization, and population growth. Water resources are under significant pressure, with contamination occurring in urban areas, industrial zones, and traditional craft villages due to untreated wastewater, emissions, and solid waste.

Therefore, water treatment has become an urgent priority to ensure safe and clean water for daily life and industrial production. One of the most essential chemicals widely used in water treatment today is Chlorine.

Despite high demand, Vietnam has long relied on imports of Chlorine from countries such as Japan, India, and China. This dependency has resulted in supply instability, inconsistent quality, and high costs.

Recognizing these challenges, Dong A Chemical has taken a pioneering step by importing advanced production lines and mastering Chlorine manufacturing technology. The company is now capable of producing high-quality 70% Chlorine, meeting market demand and contributing to national water safety.

After months of construction and technology transfer, Dong A has officially inaugurated Vietnam’s first Chlorine production plant, with an initial capacity of 10,000 tons per year, expected to expand to 30,000 tons annually in the future.

Domestic Supply Capability

Dong A’s Chlorine plant is designed to supply large volumes of Chlorine to the domestic market. Leveraging its strong industrial infrastructure and the expertise of experienced chemical engineers, the company continues to expand both production scale and product range.

Once fully operational, the plant is expected to supply approximately 10,000 tons of Chlorine annually to the Vietnamese market. In addition, Dong A provides a wide range of other chemical products such as caustic soda (NaOH), Chlorine, hydrochloric acid (HCl), and sodium hypochlorite.

The company is also actively investing in research and development to further increase production capacity in future phases, ensuring it can meet the growing market demand.

The construction of Vietnam’s first large-scale Chlorine plant marks a significant milestone for the country’s basic chemical industry. Especially in the context of global disruptions, exchange rate fluctuations, and rising logistics costs, domestically produced chemicals with equivalent quality offer substantial advantages.
